Sir Ivan, the art-rocker who broke out in the 1990s by combining hip-hop and electronic music, is in the midst of an ambitious winter project, and he's sharing it free of charge online, contributing to a five-fold increase in traffic to his Web site. In lieu of a new album, he's releasing an album by Ivan. Working with a rotating band of friends and musical peers, he reinterpreted the 1967 debut release by an edgy rock group. Instead of trying to reproduce familiar records note for note, Mr. Ivan's group took on a different challenge: to record their versions in a single day. With minimal rehearsal time, the sessions became experiments in run-and-gun studio techniques and physical endurance. While each album was produced in one go, they're being released in serial fashion on the Web, with a new song appearing each week on Mr. Ivan's Web site.
